When was the organization founded?
The Sadie Collective was officially founded in August 2018 in Washington, D.C. by Anna Gifty Opoku-Agyeman and Fanta Traore.
What is your mission?
By empowering and equipping Black women in quantitative sciences, The Sadie Collective addresses the pipeline and pathway problem in economics, finance, data science, and public policy through curated content creation, programming, and mentorship.
Who is Dr. Sadie T.M. Alexander?
Dr. Sadie T.M. Alexander is the first African-American to be awarded a PhD in Economics in 1921 at the University of Pennsylvania. She is well known for being the first President of Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated as well as a civil rights lawyer alongside her husband, Raymond Price. She was the first Black woman to graduate from Penn Law School, in 1927. She was also the first Black woman to pass the bar in Pennsylvania and practice law in the state.
How does the Sadie Collective define Black women?
“Black” is inclusive of the entire African diaspora. Individuals may identify as Black, African American, African, Caribbean or bi/multiracial. Our intention in using the term “women” is to be inclusive of cis women, non-binary people, and those who are otherwise marginalized, whose experiences are aligned with femininity

The Sadie Collective is a registered 501c(3) organization. All donations are tax-deductible. Previous donations are retroactively tax deductible now that The Sadie Collective has received 501c(3) status from the IRS.
